Mike Pence is still a loser. Stop lionizing him.

The former vice president is being lauded for doing his job on January 6, but legally he didn’t have much of a choice.

It is hard for me to stomach someone that not so long ago, knowingly allowed people to die of HIV/AIDS as a governor to now become celebrated as a “hero.”

In an interview with the Today show last Thursday, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, deputy chair of the bipartisan panel investigating the January 6 insurrection, called former Vice President Mike Pence a hero for standing up to former President Donald Trump’s efforts to “overthrow the will of the people.”

“Former vice-president Pence was a hero on 6 January,” Cheney explained. “He refused the pressures of the former president, he did his duty and the nation should be very grateful for the actions he took that day.”

Some hours later, Congressman Bennie Thompson, chair of the committee, echoed this sentiment in his opening remarks on the third hearing focused on what led to the violent U.S. Capitol riot.

“We’re fortunate for Mr. Pence’s courage on January 6,” Thompson said. “Our democracy came dangerously close to catastrophe.”
