She may be living history and she might still be an epic fundraiser, but an 83-year-old should want to relinquish power.
Nancy Pelosi has once again opted to further delay abdication, and let her tell it, it’s for the good of her district, her party, and our country.
“Now more than ever our city needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote,” Pelosi posted on Twitter last Friday.
Separately, in an interview with Politico’s Jonathan Martin, who recently profiled the Speaker emerita as she weighed seeking another two-year term, she said her choice was shaped by San Francisco’s “special needs” as well as her desire to reclaim the House majority and thwart ex-president Donald Trump’s efforts to return to the presidency.
Martin writes that although Pelosi emphasized the needs of San Francisco as for why at 83, she seeks more time in Congress, “without prompting Friday she brought up her recent trip to Italy” where Trump was apparently a constant topic of conversation.
“People there were so concerned about our democracy, as concerned about what happens if what’s-his-name ever would become president again in terms of Ukraine, in terms of NATO, in terms of the transatlantic alliance and the rest,” Pelosi said.
“It was amazing, I mean, I was on the front page of the four leading newspapers of Italy because of their concern about all of this.”
It’s amazing that she counted.
