According to multiple reports, on Thursday a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump, making him the first current or former president in American history to face criminal charges.

Hold for applause.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been investigating Trump in connection to his alleged role in a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his investigators were probing whether Trump falsified business records connected to payments related to Daniels in a way that could constitute a campaign-finance violation.

Hours before the indictment was reported, CNN revealed that in addition to questions about Daniels, Manhattan prosecutors have been asking about a separate $150,000 payment the publisher of the National Enquirer made to former Playboy model Karen McDougal to buy her story about her alleged affair with Trump.

Some in the media have complained that Bragg should not be bringing these charges against Trump, or at the very least, shouldn’t be the first to bring them in light of other more serious allegations and investigations involving Trump.
